- Documentation for FORMAT Ver. 3.00(Med or Hi)
-
- E.E. Aycock
-
- It seems that quite a lot of people like the ability to use
- a quick format option in the formatting program of their choice,
- so I got out the old source for "FORMAT2" and set it up for the
- ability to use a quick format along with the other standard,
- yet reliable options. I have not exhaustivly used the quick
- format routines (I have a hard drive) but when I have they seem
- to always work. Use them at your own risk.
-
- Anyway what was born was "FORMAT3". It is pretty much the
- same as Version 2.00 but has the added option of "NORM" or
- "FAST" for read speed. As it says in the "HELP" in the
- application, as you go to larger and larger formats while
- using the "FAST" read option, what you gain in space on the
- disk you lose in read speed. As far as I know this cannot be
- helped. The fastest read speeds will be obtained using the
- standard TOS format (marked by a green box that says "TOS" on
- the Control Panel) and the "FAST" option.
-
- Most people don't turn off the "Write Verify" when writing
- files to their disks. However if you do the write speed will
- also be increased quite a bit. I have included a little PD
- program to turn off the Write Verify if you want to. It should
- be no problem IF your drives are in good shape and aren't
- acting up. If in doubt "LEAVE WRITE VERIFY ON"!
-
- One last thing. Don't use the underline character ("_") in
- any of the dialogs (i.e. the disk naming box). For some reason
- that I don't fully understand this will cause the system to
- blow up with MANY bombs!
-
-
- Enjoy,
